Do you suspect you’ve got a problem with pests in your home? Bugs, rodents, and insects in your home can be at best an inconvenience and at worst a threat to your health. The best thing to do if you’ve got household pests is to identify them in order to see how to best get rid of them.
But this can be tricky to do. That’s why today we’re going to be looking at four of the most common household pests, and how you can identify them.
1. Ants
Ants love to eat, and you’re more likely to attract them to your kitchen if you’ve got spills, dirty dishes, or open food containers there. This pest is more commonly seen in the summer. This is one of the easiest types of pests to identify because you’ll probably see them moving in a slow and steady line across your wall or floor.
Ants can be tricky to get rid of. Your best bet is to figure out why they’re attracted to your kitchen and how they’re getting in, then address both of these issues.
2. Silverfish
Like ants, silverfish are most often found in homes in the summer months. This is because they prefer warmer temperatures, and they also gravitate toward damp spaces. These tiny creatures eat things like cardboard or clothes that have been starched.
Silverfish are small in size and gray or silver in color. You will recognize them because of the unique way they move their bodies: they often appear as though they are swimming across the floor. If you have silverfish, there are home remedies for pest removal you can try but calling an exterminator will always work best.
3. Bed Bugs
These tiny blood-sucking creatures get their name from the fact that they live in your bed, but also hide in mattress seams, behind pictures on walls, in wall cracks, and inside drawers and cabinets. One of the trickiest things about this pest is that they can live up to a year without eating, so they’re really tough to get rid of. If you’re having a problem with bed bugs, only the best pest control company will be able to help you.
4. Mice
Mice are among the most common pests found in homes in the US today. They may look cute, but they can cause permanent damage to your home. Mice can chew through cables, urinate on your belongings, and burrow holes in your home.
If you suspect you have a mouse there are some signs to look out for. Do you hear scurrying noises at night, see gnaw marks around your home, and smell urine? If so, there’s a good chance you’ve got at least one mouse.
