There is just something about smelling a familiar scent from your childhood that can transport you to nostalgia and happiness. It could be the smell of rosemary from your Italian grandmother’s cooking. Or lavender that your mother used to spray on your pillow to help you sleep.

The best essential oils do this for us – they bottle up our favorite scents and allow us to get optimal health benefits from them. You will need essential oil diffusers to disperse these gorgeous scents into your room or apartment. Keep reading to find out about the types of diffusers on the market.

1. Reed Diffusers

These diffusers use thin wooden sticks or reeds to diffuse the essential oil into the air. They are placed into a bottle of essential oil and then the oil travels up the reed and is released into the air. This type of diffuser requires no electricity or maintenance and is essentially always on.

2. Water Diffusers

These are the most commonly known diffusers on the market. You fill the basin of these diffusers with water and then add your oil of choice. Then switch it on and the ultrasonic waves will disperse the water and scent into the room.

3. Nebulizer Diffusers

This diffuser will break down the essential oil into separate molecules that can then be dispersed more easily. If you wish to reap more natural benefits of the essential oil, then this is the ideal diffuser for you.

4. Candle Diffusers

This type of diffuser uses candles to heat up the essential oil which then seeps into the room and scents it. There are many beautiful shapes, designs, and sizes for these diffusers, which is great, because you dont have to worry about your diffuser taking away from homes ambience.

5. Electric Heat Diffusers

Same idea as with the candle, but instead of using a candle, you use electricity to heat the oil and diffuse it. The scent lasts as long as the oil takes to fully evaporate.

6. Fan-Style Diffusers

Using a fan to disperse the essential oil scent, these diffusers can get to a bigger surface area. So, if you have a bigger apartment or house, you will want to purchase one of these scent machines for homes.

7. Terracotta Diffusers

These have lovely clay pots or bottles that are tightly closed with a cork to keep the essential oil in. The scent disperses over time as the essential oil permeates the clay or stone, and releases into the room. It’s hard to clean these diffusers as the oil will suffuse into the clay and thus, it’s hard to change scents with them.
