Do you love watching videos across genres? If you binge-watch music videos, tutorials, DIY cooking videos, and more, the YouTube app is a must-have on your smartphone.
Typically, the YouTube application works fine on an iPhone. But there might be instances when videos may refuse to play, or the app becomes unresponsive. There’s no need to waste your time thinking why is YouTube not working on my iPhone because the resolutions are simple. First, check whether you are connected to a stable Internet connection. Second, check YouTube’s server is working fine. Third, restart your iPhone. If the issue persists, reinstall the YouTube app.
Now that you can handle YouTube app nightmares on your iPhone, let’s move on to other tips and tricks for a smooth experience.
Control the Video Quality
YouTube plays videos at a certain quality level, which is the default. If you are on a limited data plan, you can reduce the video’s quality to save mobile data. You can also watch videos at the highest quality if you are connected to a high-speed Wi-Fi network.
To change the video quality, tap the three-dot menu when watching a video and select Quality. Choose your preferred option.
Also, you can set the app to Play HD on Wi-Fi Only. This setting will ensure YouTube plays HD-quality videos whenever you are connected to Wi-Fi.
Stop Auto-Play
Are you binge-watching videos? If so, YouTube might be automatically playing the next video in the queue. But if you just want to watch a single video, auto-play can be annoying. It is also distracting and might keep you from finishing your tasks.
When a video is playing, you can go into portrait mode and tap the switch next to Auto-play. Turn it off so only a single video plays.
Fine-Tune Recommendations
YouTube’s homepage is an excellent place to discover more content. The platform collects videos that are recommended, trending, or from creators you have subscribed to. But the recommendations are not always accurate.
You can fine-tune the platform’s algorithm to make the recommendations personal. You have to log into the app with your Google account and then tap the three-dot menu next to the video’s title. If you don’t want to watch such videos, select Not Interested. The platform’s algorithm will get the hint that you don’t want to watch such kinds of videos, and they won’t show such recommendations in the future.
Add Videos to Watch Later
Imagine you are on the YouTube app and already watched five to six videos before finding the one you actually want to watch. But you have reached your destination and have to keep your phone away. What do you do? Do you close the app and then search for the video again? No! You can add videos to the watch later playlist to quickly watch them again without wasting time.
The watch later playlist neatly organizes the saved videos for later viewing. Simply tap the three-dot icon of the video you are watching and tap the plus icon. Then, tap the plus icon again to add it to the watch later playlist.
Enable Captions
Suppose you have forgotten your earphones but want to watch videos while commuting to work. Of course, you cannot watch them in full volume because others might get disturbed. The best solution is to turn on subtitles or captions by tapping the CC icon. You can choose to translate the language to your preferred language.
However, please note that the captions might not be accurate because they are computer-generated.
Take Control of YouTube’s History
Whatever you watch on the YouTube application leaves a digital footprint on the platform. They get saved as search and watch history. But you can manage this within the application.
Tap on the profile picture and go to Settings. Scroll down to find the History & Privacy subheading and clear your search or watch history. You can also pause it so that whatever you watch or search doesn’t appear in the history for as long as the feature is enabled.
AirPlay the Videos to Your TV
Browsing YouTube on your iPhone is faster and easily accessible. But of course, the best experience would be to watch the videos on a larger display.
If you have a smart TV in your home or a gaming console, you can quickly cast your video on the TV. Tap the Watch on TV icon when watching a YouTube video, and then you will see a list of devices connected to your Wi-Fi network. You can AirPlay the videos to your TV.
Besides these, you can use the picture-in-picture mode to watch videos while using other apps.
